Game 1: Gardner-Edgerton

25 March @Home vs. Gardner (5-0)

Your first game is never really as good or as bad as it looks.  For us we did catch a 5-0 shutout of Gardner, but it was a game that stood only 1-0 at half, despite lots of shots, lots of possessions.

Kutey (who was part of every goal we scored) did sit out the first twenty minutes and the Gardner keeper did make some nice saves, but our crosses, our offsides, our shooting, our framing . . . well they all could have been better.

Heying twisted her ankle badly in the first half, so she was out for the rest of the  game, and probably for a while longer as she left in crutches.

All of our frosh had very nice varsity debuts: both keepers kept the sheet clean, both lofting some nice kicks, with Calvert also coming out quickly from the sweeper/keeper position to destroy 2-3 through balls.  Moss was solid in the back, and BWhite recognized Marge Pigott as the BWhite Player of the Match.

He loved her scrappiness all over the field, along with her constant effort to find feet. She did tally an assist as well.

The girls did not give up a single shot all night, suggesting our midfield and pushed-forward backs kept the ball in our half most of the night.

The goal of the night came with goal 5.  Kutey niftily moves to the base line where she t's it back for a Meyers' stop and a behind the leg flick to Denning who shoots it through a small keyhole, perfectly finding the back of the net.

With Mo-Kan starting Monday, we know we have quite a bit to work on in the next few days.  But it was nice to get Game 1 out of the way. And Gardner is a much-improved soccer program in just one short year.
